Bike Walk Wichita Work Groups

Are you interested in being part of Bike Walk Wichita? Work Groups are vital to fulfilling our mission and goals. Groups are comprised of members and friends who volunteer their time and/or expertise. All levels of involvement are welcome. Here’s a brief description of each work group. Find your place!

  • Advocacy – Bike Walk Wichita was first founded in 2010 on the inspiration of improving Wichita’s bicycle transportation and bike-walk infrastructure, making the city streets safer, and working with city planners to provide assistance in providing information, focus on good community causes, and a grassroots voice.  The Advocacy group is usually on the front lines of making changes for quality-of-life initiatives!
  • Bike Education – Volunteers organize classes and informational meetups.  Bicycle safety classes, confident street riding, and basic bike maintenance classes are just a few.  Additionally, we have classes that involve arts and crafts from upcycling used bike parts.
  • Pedestrian – Walkers are active, social, and spontaneous!  This workgroup keeps a focus on pedestrian issues, events, and group activities.
  • Recycle Bikes – We receive bikes to be fixed and donated to people who need a bike, not as a toy but as a tool for transportation. Volunteers are needed on our regular work days.  See the footer of this website for open hours.
  • WomenBike – The Bike Walk Wichita ladies are starting a movement to increase the participation of women in biking. We host Ladies’ Night events and are planning more rides, workshops, events, and meet-ups. You can find us on Twitter at #womenbikeICT.
  • Governance – oversees the daily functioning of BWW. Main projects include maintaining 501c3 paperwork, evaluation, monitoring, and assisting the Wichita Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plans implementation, ensuring strategic planning annually, and identifying funding opportunities and community partners.
  • Communications – Social Media, Podcast/Voice, eNewsletter Stories contributor, Photographers, Photos, Videographers, Traditional and Digital marketing, and volunteer recruitment-outreach.  Keeping up with all of this takes a number of people who like to make noise!  Additionally, Communications supports all the above work groups with internal products and IT support.  This is the group that helps keep BWW’s message focused and out there while providing some technical support.  Join us at one of our BWW Monthly meetings usually on 3rd Thursdays.
