Bikes are donated to us, repaired, or stripped for parts by volunteers, they are ready to be sold or given out to people in need. We accept donated bicycles in any condition. No experience is necessary to volunteer. We have a variety of different volunteer tasks to do for people of any skill level.
Earn-a-Bike
Anyone, after completing 15 hours of volunteer work repairing our donated bicycles, you can select one of the bikes we have to refurbish. To purchase parts, you can pay cash or earn additional credit at the rate of $5 per hour. Limit 1 EAB every 6 months. We have a variety of volunteer tasks, including bike repair, bike disassembly, and general BWW volunteer jobs. Just show up during ReCycle Shop hours and you can start earning a bike! Come in anytime during our hours to adopt a bike.
Adopt-a-Bike
We offer ready-to-roll children’s bikes (up to 20″ size) FREE to any child who needs a bike. Adults and children must be present to be sure they get a bike that fits. Helmets, and locks for children who ride to school, are available as well as a goodie bag! Come in anytime during our hours to adopt a bike.
Build-a-Bike
Teens needing a larger bike can come in and build a bike within two sessions, depending on the bike they select. They will work with a bike mechanic to ensure the bike is ready to roll. A helmet, lights, and lock are available. Email the ReCycle and the ReCycle Coordinators and the Shop Manager to sign up for a session during our open hours: recycle@bikewalkwichita.org | ReCycleCoordinators@bikewalkwichita.org
Home-Mek
Be your own mechanic at home with our Home-Mek program. We have bicycles with the properly-identified repair needs and adjustments. Volunteers can set up a time to pick up bikes from our shop, take them home to work on them, and return them later. Spare parts are provided. To be eligible for this program, it just requires a basic pre-approval meeting, and discussion to get to know your bike repair skillsets.
Agency Referral Bicycle Voucher
Many agencies in Wichita, that are non-profit, outreach organizations, and churches, provide a BWW bicycle voucher form (pre-approved by BWW), for some individuals on a case-by-case basis, who meet the criteria. This voucher when presented to the Bike Walk Wichita Recycle Shop, can then be used to get a free bicycle and bike U-lock. We have list of specific Wichita agencies, ask us more about it when visiting our Repair Shop. For more information, email: recycle@bikewalkwichita.org
Retail “For-Sale” used bicycles
We also have a retail section in the bike shop warehouse, with used bicycles our mechanics and volunteers have fixed up to ensure good operability. Also, we sell “as is” bicycles at a cheaper cost. Costs are reasonable, as we are a non-profit with a mission to help the community. All sold bikes money goes to supporting our mission. Link to our Retail Webpage.

Teens who are too big for one of our free 20″ bicycles can receive a 24″ or 26″ bike. This service depends if we have these bikes in our inventory. Also, some kids even younger, if they’ve outgrown their smaller bicycle can also be eligible for Build-a-Bike.
Build-a-Bike usually occurs on Saturdays before noon. Must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.
One of our ReCycle Shop Coordinators will assist. A bicycle can be picked out. Some minor maintenance will be instructed and our ReCycle bike mechanics will help. We will ensure the youth bicycle is sized properly.

Hey my bike was stolen! There is a Facebook page SedgwickCountyStolenBikes where you can post about a stolen bike. Lots of people view this page, it seems like the best way to get the word out. Also, be sure to file a police report in case the bike is recovered.
