Launches Bicycle Friendly Business Campaign

The Health and Wellness Coalition of Wichita (HWC) is dedicated to improving physical activity and promoting good nutrition for all generations living in the greater Wichita area. In an effort to reward local businesses and raise awareness, the Health and Wellness Coalition of Wichita (HWC) and the Bike Wichita steering committee is launching the Bicycle Friendly Business Campaign.

The Wichita Bicycle Friendly Business campaign is a great way to promote active and healthy lifestyles for employees and customers in the Wichita area. The campaign will honor businesses, government agencies, or non-profits, with more than two employees located in the Wichita metro area, that actively promote bicycling. We encourage applications from large and small businesses with single or multiple locations. Businesses with multiple locations must apply per location.

HWC will recognize those deserving businesses that engage in bicycle friendly approaches that include but are not limited to the following.

• encourages bicyclists to their business
• has secure and convenient bicycle parking
• provides incentives for employees to commute by bicycle
• supports a bicycle team/club
• works to improve bicycle conditions in the community
• provides on-site shower facilities for employees
• promotes “bike to work” week

HWC will recognize the Wichita Bicycle Friendly Business by profiling the business on www.hwcwichita.org and by presenting a decal to be displayed in the business. A business may apply for this recognition or individuals may nominate a business. The application can be accessed on line at www.hwcwichita.org or by calling 264-4066 x221. By participating in the Wichita Bike Friendly Business Campaign, cyclists and business owners are working together to create and encourage bicycling as fun, healthy and smart.
