“Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”

From the movie Forrest Gump (1994)

My daily rides are a lot like the line in the Forest Gump movie “Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get”

Many times I start out a ride I often wonder what I’ll see, or maybe even wonder where I will end up.

Today’s ride, was no different, my only goal was to get out and get some miles today.

I had planned a ride from Home Depot along the K 96 bike path down to the other bike paths to Lincoln Street today.

Pretty uneventful up until I got just south of 21st St. and saw a red fox that I’ve seen in this area before.

Now you have to understand this is right off the highway inside the city limits of Wichita Kansas.

I have seen this fox in the area several times before but only just a glance.

Today the fox was sunning himself by a tree and not moving initially.

This gave me an opportunity to stop and get my iPhone out and attempt to take a picture.

At this point the fox was about 10 feet away from me, and of course as soon as I started taking pictures it took off on a really strange route were headed towards the highway and then back south.

I continued to take pictures, not knowing if they would show up or not as he ran.

Not the best pics, but you can still make the Fox out.

I was pretty jazzed after getting pictures but I still had some miles to go. so I continued south and noticed this guy on the bike.

From a distance I could tell it was an interesting set up, so I raced to catch up with him

As I approached, we visited back-and-forth as we rode along and I commented I bet nobody sneaks up on you from behind, he said yeah I saw you from a ways back

He had more mirrors on his bicycle that most people have on their cars

My new friend, Anthony when asked, said he had been riding for years that he rides every day.  Just one of the hundreds of thousands that Bike Walk Wichita advocates for.

We talked about him riding on the bike paths and all over the neighborhood, had a nice visit ended up sharing some trail mix I had on my bike with him.

I’m glad I took my time to track him down and visit with him,  it was very enjoyable.

I continued further south to the park where they were setting up for some kind of celebration, I thought I would check it out on my return trip. (no pics) little did I know at that time I was not going to be back on the trail today.

I was a little disappointed to see the sidewalk was closed, but also glad that they were repairing it.

As I stopped to take this picture another guy on a bike came by and went south.

When he turned east on Douglas about a block ahead of me, I decided to head to East also.

Just passed Grove I noticed a loaf of bread in the middle of the sidewalk.  Wasn’t just any bread, a loaf from Delano Bakery.

Looks like it fell from somebody’s bag, I’m guessing they were on a bike.

As I was taking this picture another guy on the bike past I ended up leaving the bread there and continued to East.

I continued home, but cut over to the bike lanes on first Street, since they were freshly painted.

The rest of my ride was uneventful in comparison.

I hope you were able to get out and enjoy your day, and that you get to experience a day where life is like a box of chocolates you never know what you’re going to get.

What does getting out riding or walking do for you?
