Great fun yesterday meeting with people from the Mental Health Association! They’d heard of Bike Walk Wichita, of course, but did not understand the scope of what all we do. Talking with them about our Earn a Bike program, they saw right away the value of having their clients put in time to earn a bike. There’s the learning how bikes work that’s good, but getting their clients out into the community is important for them as well. I was delighted when halfway through the tour of our shop one of them said something like “You guys “get it” like few other groups do. Giving people an opportunity to build connections is where the real power of change comes from, helping people to feel part of something bigger than themselves.” And that is what ReCycle does – lets people teach and learn from each other, building relationships while providing basic transportation to people who need it. I’m proud of our organization and the collaborative relationships we pursue.
