Wichita Trends

In order to best plan for our future, we need to understand our current trends. Guest speaker Phil Nelson provided an excellent presentation during the January BWW monthly meeting. As the former Director of the Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization [WAMPO], Phil understands the long-range planning process, our community’s desire to move towards active transportation, and the budget disconnect at our city, county and state levels.

Recently returned to Wichita and wanting to support Active Transportation efforts. Really enjoyed Phil’s presentation for his insider insights into actual workings and motivations behind Transport decision makers. Phil’s experience and insights are invaluable for successful Active Transport advocacy. No one chooses Wichita because of highway interchanges or bypasses. Bike paths and walking trails are without question more attractive to 18-to-54 year-olds than expanded highways. BWW should formally follow-up with 19 Jan City Council motion “to support expanded funding for active transportation”. I applaud your efforts! Be safe!
